What is stored
Snippets, folders, tags, preferences, and optional plain-text clipboard history are stored in a local SQLite database. SnippetVault never records images, files, or non-text clipboard formats.
What leaves your device
Nothing during ordinary use. SnippetVault does not contact external services. A JSON export leaves the app only when you save or share it. iCloud Backups are versioned JSON files written to an iCloud Drive folder you explicitly choose; Apple may upload those files under your iCloud settings.
Clipboard monitoring
Monitoring is off on first launch and requires an explicit choice. When enabled, the running app checks for new plain text at a restrained interval. It ignores exact consecutive duplicates, paused monitoring, ignore-rule matches, and entries larger than your configured limit. SnippetVault cannot promise reliable detection of every password manager’s concealed content.
Encryption
Version 1 does not claim application-level database encryption. Local data is protected by your macOS account permissions and any FileVault disk encryption you enable. Export and backup files are plain JSON and should be handled as sensitive.
Deleting data
You can permanently delete individual snippets, clear clipboard history, or use Delete All Local Data in Settings. SnippetVault prunes its own old versioned backup files but never deletes the backup folder itself.
